Sinopsis

In this thesis I would like to defend the hypothesis that Hungarian is a configurational language. There has been much discussion in recent years concerning the question whether Hungarian is a configurational language or not. It is my contention, however, that on the basis of empirical evidence presented in this study, Hungarian phrase structure has a configurational core. In this study, the achievements and goals of the generative research program will be adopted. I will follow a modular approach to the grammar of natural language as has been defended in a so-called Government and Binding paradigm.
