Sinopsis

Though not extremely well known outside his native Portugal, Eduardo Souto de Moura (b. 1952) has designed and built more than 50 projects in his 25-year career. He has attracted increasing interest in the international architecture world of late with a number of private houses completed in the past five years, including one for the distinguished film director Manoel de Oliveira. Souto de Moura worked with Alvaro Siza in the late 1970s and opened his own practice in Oporto in 1980. His work has been compared formally to that of Mies Van der Rohe, with its emphasis on minimal, modernist lines, the use of glass and wood, and provocative sitings in the natural environment. This book, in the Architectural Documents series, presents a large selection of the works and projects of Souto de Moura and is the only monograph on the architect in print in English. Like the other books in this series, it features a clean design, excellent color photographs, plans, and drawings, and straightforward project descriptions.
